My eldest daughter is taking a gap year before entering college.
She did not choose this break just to rest. She chose it intentionally to build her art portfolio and prepare for her future.
Watching her plan her path, organize her artwork, and make mature decisions for herself stopped me in my tracks. I found myself asking a question every parent eventually asks: When did my baby girl grow up?
It feels like just yesterday I was shielding my daughters from the storms of our past. In our survival years, my main job was to protect them, hold them close, and keep them safe.
Now, my role is shifting. I am stepping back from being their full-time shield to becoming their anchor, confidante, and biggest cheerleader.

It brings a quiet sense of relief.
God did not place my children in my care for me to baby them forever or keep them tucked safely under my wing. He entrusted them to me so I could teach them how to fly.
In my past life, my own wings were constantly clipped. I was not allowed to grow or succeed because someone else feared being outshined.
I refuse to pass that fear down to my daughters.
As their mother, I want them to soar. I want them to stretch their wings confidently, unhindered by fear. I want them to know that they are backed not only by a mother who believes in them, but by a powerful, loving God who guides their steps.
✧
I would be lying if I said I never feel a pang of worry when I think about them stepping out into the world on their own.
Fear was the very thing that kept me trapped in a painful life for far too long. In this new life, I refuse to give fear a seat at my table.
After everything my family has survived, what else is left to fear? My God is far bigger than any uncertainty this world can offer.
Instead of worrying, I pray.
I pray that as my daughters grow, they remember that they are allowed to make mistakes. They are allowed to fail, get back up, and try again. That is how true learning happens.
More than anything, I hope that by watching me live my life now—building, trusting, and choosing peace—they discover God for themselves.

If you are a mother struggling with the fear of watching your children grow up and become independent, release the urge to hold them back.
Your job was never to keep them in the nest forever. Your job was to give them a safe place to build their strength so that one day, they could step into the world with courage.
Trust the foundation you built for them. Lay down your anxieties, pray over their path, and give them room to fly.
You never know, you might be surprised by how high they can soar. 🙂
Thank you for spending a few quiet moments here.
May you leave carrying a little more hope than when you arrived.
With love,
